About Creatively Done Homes Improvements — Nassau County’s Father & Son Contractors
Creatively Done Homes Improvements Inc. is a Nassau County home renovation company built on 44 years of hands-on trade experience and a father-son partnership that started with a kid in a tool belt. Kevin and Matthew bring structural knowledge, finish carpentry skill, and honest work ethic to every project — from Hicksville to the North Shore.
About Creatively Done Homes Improvements — Kevin has been in the construction trade since 1982, starting as a teenager working after school and summers. He launched Creatively Done Homes Improvements Inc. in 1986 with his first solo job in Nassau County. Today, he and his son Matthew deliver structural renovations, custom millwork, and complete home remodeling across Nassau County with the same work ethic that built the business from day one.
KEVIN’S STORY · FROM SWEEPING FLOORS TO SETTING STEEL
44 Years in the Trade — And It Started with Learning How to Sweep
Kevin’s first job in construction was learning how to sweep properly. Not run a saw, not frame a wall — sweep. It was 1982, and he was working after school and summers alongside experienced tradesmen who believed you earned your way up from the ground floor. That foundation stuck.
From there, Kevin attended BOCES trade school for carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC. At the time, New York offered a master walking test — a single exam that could certify you as a master tradesman across all disciplines. Before he could finish the final BOCES classes, the state changed the requirements, mandating W-2 employment history and written exams for each trade separately. That door closed, but the knowledge stayed.
Kevin went on to attend college at night, taking preliminary architecture, drafting, and blueprint reading courses. He later earned certification as a stick iron welder. But the real education came on the job — ground-up new home construction on Long Island. Foundation work, setting steel I-beams, framing, and eventually becoming the bench man — the most skilled position in a millwork shop, responsible for the precision cut work that defines custom cabinetry and architectural trim.
In 1986, Kevin took his first job on his own. It was small, but it was his. Creatively Done Homes Improvements Inc. was born.
When the new housing market dried up on Long Island in the early 1990s, Kevin transitioned to renovations — bringing his ground-up construction knowledge to existing homes. He did a stint in the union in Manhattan, working at Carnegie Hall and several other landmark buildings, before deciding that commercial work was too repetitive. Doing decks every day didn’t allow for the creativity and skill expansion that residential renovation demanded. So he came back to Nassau County, where every home is different and every project challenges you to solve something new.

MATTHEW’S STORY · THE KID IN THE TOOL BELT
He Climbed the Ladder Before He Could Read

Matthew’s path into the trade wasn’t planned — it was inevitable. Maybe it started with Bob the Builder. At four or five years old, he walked around wearing a tool belt like it was part of his uniform. Kevin remembers the day they were installing a skylight on a California splanchni — their first home — and turned around to find Matthew on the roof. He’d climbed the extension ladder on his own. No one told him to. No one helped him up.
Kevin tried to steer him away from the business. As a father, he knew what the trade demands — the economy ebbs and flows, and so does your income. It’s doctor’s hours without the pay. Then there’s the physical reality: Kevin worked Matthew from age 14 on the hottest days of summer and the coldest days of winter, hoping the hardship would push him toward something easier.
It didn’t. Matthew chose this work because he’s not afraid of it. He chose it because he saw what his father could build with his hands and wanted to do the same. Today, Matthew works alongside Kevin on every project — handling beam installations, framing, finish carpentry, and the physical labor that keeps a renovation moving. He brings the energy, Kevin brings the experience, and together they deliver work that neither could do as well alone.
WHAT WE BRING · CREDENTIALS & EXPERIENCE
The Knowledge Behind the Craftsmanship
Trade School & Continuing Education
BOCES trade school training in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC. College coursework in preliminary architecture, drafting, and blueprint reading. Certified stick iron welder. Kevin didn’t just learn one trade — he learned the full scope of how buildings work, from foundation to finish. That’s why he can walk into any Nassau County home and understand what’s behind the walls before opening them up.
Ground-Up Construction Experience
Kevin’s career started with new home construction on Long Island — foundation work, setting steel I-beams, structural framing, and eventually becoming the bench man in a millwork shop. Most renovation contractors only know how to take things apart. Kevin knows how buildings are built from scratch, which means he understands the structural logic of your home before he picks up a tool. See our project gallery for examples of our work.
Commercial & Residential Experience
Kevin’s commercial experience includes union work in Manhattan — Carnegie Hall among other buildings — plus commercial interior buildouts for medical and dental offices. But commercial work meant repetitive projects with no room for creativity. Residential renovation is the opposite. Every Nassau County home is different, every project demands problem-solving, and 42 years of that range shows in every detail. Residential work is Kevin’s true passion.
OUR VALUES · HOW WE WORK
What You Can Expect from Creatively Done Homes Improvements
1
Honest Assessments
Kevin tells you what’s possible, what’s not, and what it will actually cost. No inflated promises to win the job. If your project doesn’t make sense structurally or financially, he’ll tell you that too. You get a detailed written estimate with every line item — not a ballpark number on the back of a business card. After 42 years, Kevin’s estimates are accurate because he’s seen every scenario these homes can throw at you.
2
We Show Up
Kevin and Matthew are on-site for every project. Not managing from a phone, not sending crews you’ve never met. The people who gave you the estimate are the people doing the work and the people you call with questions. When something comes up mid-project — and it always does in older Nassau County homes — you’re talking directly to the person who can make the decision on the spot. And when you call the office, you’re talking to Lydia — Kevin’s wife and office manager — who handles customer care and service requests. It’s a family business in every sense.
3
Clean Work, Respect for Your Home
Every tool we own connects to a HEPA dust extraction vacuum — Festool systems designed to keep your home clean while we work. We dust barrier active work zones, clean up daily, and treat your home like someone lives there — because someone does. The reviews consistently mention how clean and respectful Kevin and Matthew are on the job site.
